- Abstract
Objective: To explore the therapeutic effect of acupuncture at single acupoint method for sciatica. Method: All of the patients admitted into the research should divide into control group and the observation group according to the therapeutic methods averagely. The control group should treat with conventional therapy, and the observation group should treat with acupuncture at single acupoint. After the treatment, clinical effect of the two groups should compare with each other. Result: The total effective rate of the control group in this research was 77.50% (31/40), and that of the observation group was 95.00% (38/40). Comparison between two groups indicated that the difference was not statistically significant (P < 0.05). Pain degree and lower back pain of patients in two groups have been compared before the treatment, the result indicated that the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). The visual analogue scale (VAS) score of observation group after the treatment was 3.64 ± 0.35 points. The Modified Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score of observation group after the treatment was 26.15 ± 2.32 points. And the comparison of VAS score and M-JOA score between control group and observation group after the treatment indicated that the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). In the occurrence rate of complications, difference between the control group and observation group indicated that the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The curative effect of acupuncture at single acupoint for sciatica is obvious, and the safety is high. This therapeutic method is worth to apply widely in clinic on the base of further research.
