- Abstract
The effectiveness of the investment tax credit has been a matter of controversy since its inception, and several studies have been conducted on the impact of the investment tax credit. This study goes beyond analyzing the effectiveness of the investment tax credit. The primary purpose of this research is to develop an attitudinal profile of financial managers toward the investment tax credit. Attitude was determined by analyzing responses to a questionnaire sent to 525 financial vice presidents. The most surprising result of this study is that the perception of financial managers toward the ITC does not appear to be associated with the capital intensity of the manager's industry. Also, the responses indicate that the majority of financial managers view the investment tax credit as a bonus to one degree or another. Firms appear disinclined to view the ITC as a powerful incentive.
