- Abstract
Aim: Music is not just an entertainment tool but also it understandably reflects people's world of feelings and thoughts which makes investigation of the peroperative effects of music on anxiety and sedation an interesting subject for anesthesiologists. In this study we aimed to evaluate peroperative effect of Classical Turkish Music on sedation scores and bispectral index (BIS) values in patients under regional anesthesia. Material and Method: For this purpose sixty ASA physical status I-III patients scheduled for inguinal herniorraphy under epidural anesthesia were included in the study. In Group M (n=30) patients were allowed to listen to Classical Turkish Music in Tune Hejaz during the operation and in Group S (n=30) patients were isolated from the environmental noise via headsets. Vital signs, sedation scores and BIS values were recorded. Results: Our data showed that sedation scores and BIS values were not statistically different between groups but intragroup analysis showed that in Group M sedation scores and BIS values were significantly lower (p<0.05). In conclusion, even if vital signs and sedation scores were not statistically different between groups, decreased sedation scores in Group M made us to think that listening Classical Turkish Music may be used as a harmless aid to overcome peroperative anxiety.
