- Abstract
Unconditional basic income is an idea that is relatively old, but according to many its time is coming. In Switzerland there are collecting signatures to call the referendum on its implementation. In the European Union there was declared European Citizens' Initiative for an Unconditional Basic Income. There is only little experience in the world, but the debate is still expanding. In Slovakia, we should discuss this option - not only in terms of social policy, but especially in terms of improving a quality of life and deepening democracy. This paper is dedicated to reflect on the concept of an unconditional basic income. The idea of a basic income is very old. But in 21 century, apparently - according to the opinion of many philosophers, economists and politicians, the time to implement it has just come. There are lots of questions and issues to discuss in the context of an unconditional basic income. However Europe is under discussion and we also in Slovakia should be in this debate active. This paper is a challenge to the wider development of such a discussion.
