- Abstract
This article provides information on needling, a medical technique developed to remove fishing hooks, mainly from fingers but also from ears, the face and other exposed areas. In this technique, large gauge hypodermic needle is inserted through the puncture wound on the inside of the hook and is slid over the barb of the hook. The two are then held firmly together and the hook and needle are removed as one unit. Local anaesthesia is not routinely advised and the technique causes minimal trauma.
