- Abstract
We read with interest the above-mentioned article and agree with the author's sentiment that living kidney donor (LKD) surgery can be unforgiving and result in adverse consequences for both donor and recipient. However, to assert that it is the only safe way to secure a MRA for all scenarios is an underappreciation of the complexities of LKD surgery. To suggest that it is "unethical" to use anything other than a vascular stapler or suture ligation as stated by Robertson, is a personal opinion not demonstrated in published literature.1,2 Situations may demand alternate methods to securing the MRA such a short MRA renal artery, and the need to ligate the right MRA via aortocaval groove or behind the vena cava.
