- Abstract
The article reports on the debate going on in Great Britain related to ageism. The arguments against ageism strike at the heart of the values of the National Health Service created by the older generations, that is, healthcare free at the point of need available to all from cradle to grave. There are evidence that larger numbers of older people will not automatically increase healthcare expenditure, because living longer does not always result in more years of ill health or disability. There is now clear potential for age-associated disorders to benefit from modern drug therapies.
