- Abstract
Inconsistencies in the literature on the relationship between personality traits and alcohol consumption is observed because it is not known if are causes or consequences of consumption. Objective. The study aimed was to relate anxiety and depression traits with alcohol consumption and risk consumption in a non-clinical population of school adolescents from Mexico. Method. 906 basic education students were selected through accidental non-probability sampling with a mean age of 13.37 (SD = 1.09). The age of onset of consumption was 11.49 (SD = 2.47). Results. Low statistically significant relationships between anxiety and depression traits with risky consumption are identified, likewise, differences by sex and consumption initiation are identified. Conclusions. The results are discussed based on the development of personality traits.
