- Abstract
In the last decade euthanasia has become increasingly accepted and it is very probable that in the near future it will be legalized in more countries. The topic is still contentious; arguments for and against it seem to stretch infinitely, but at the same time there are many who form opinions on the topic without having a clear image of the concept and forms of euthanasia. Our goal is to specify the topic of euthanasia, to clear up unsubstantiated doubts, to present some of the most important arguments for and against it, and to also assess the relevancy of these arguments. Our subjects were 50 university students from different departments in Cluj-Napoca. During the interviews, we have assessed their positions regarding euthanasia. According to our qualitative investigations, those who support it cite the avoidance of unnecessary pain and suffering, and those who do not primarily cite religious reasons. The answers given also reveal that even among those receiving university training - among others, prospective caregivers - there are many misconceptions regarding the topic. We believe further studies as well as an increased presence of the topic in scholarly journals is needed.
