- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effects of lamotrigine in patients with partial epilepsy. Methods: A total of 60 patients with partial epilepsy, who were treated in People’s Hospital of Sichuan Province from June 2012 to December 2013, were randomly divided into treatment group (n=30) and control group (n=30). The control group was treated with carbamazepine, while the treatment group, lamotrigine. Then the curative effect, cognitive function and quality of life of the patients in the two groups were compared 20 weeks after treatment. Results: The seizure-free rate and total effective rate in treatment group were 20.00% and 80.00% respectively, significantly higher than those (6.67% and 53.33%) in control group (P<0.05). The cognitive function score in treatment group was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05). The Quality of life score in treatment group was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Lamotrigine has a significant effect in patients with partial epilepsy, which can effectively control the seizure of partial epilepsy, and improve the cognitive function and quality of life of patients.
