- Abstract
The Gold Standards Framework Care Homes (GSFCH) training and accreditation programme is one of the biggest, most comprehensive programmes ever undertaken to enhance end-of-life care in care homes. The programme has been running for almost 6 years and approximately 1000 homes have participated in it. The training programme is based on the GSF's seven key tasks: communication; coordination; control of systems; continuity out of hours; continued learning; carer support; and care in the dying phase. This article will focus on the first aspect, i.e. communication, and provide an overview of the importance of communication in advance care planning.
