- Abstract
There was one case of radiation myelitis which occurred in a patient who had thoracic radiotherapy with a treatment field which overlapped the prior SABR re-irradiation, with a total spinal cord overlap dose of up to 49 Gray. Palliative radiotherapy in the last 30 days of life M Hamilton, SP 2 sp H Kleiven SP 1,2 sp and A Shorthouse SP 1,2 sp I SP 1 sp Canberra Region Cancer Centre, The Canberra Hospital, Garran, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia, SP 2 sp Australian National University Medical School, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia i B Purpose: b Patients who survive for less than 1 month after palliative radiotherapy may not benefit from this treatment, however, life expectancy can be difficult to predict. The percentage of patients prescribed more than 10 treatments was 17.7% in the whole palliative patient cohort and significantly lower in the cohort of patients who died within 30 days (9.2%). B Methods and materials: b A total of 478 NCCN classified high-risk patients treated from 2008-2016 were identified: 244 patients received intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) to the prostate only (BED SB / 1.5-3Gy sb of 120-180 Gy) and 234 patients received IMRT to the prostate and a high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy boost (BED SB / 1.5-3Gy sb 159-265 Gy). There were three groups based on their RT treatment modality: conventional RT (cRT), margin 5 mm adaptive RT (aRT5mm) and margin 7mm adaptive RT (aRT7mm).
