- Abstract
Clinical leadership skills are now being taught to junior doctors. This study looks at the baseline views of 196 recently qualified Foundation doctors (year 2). The most favoured Belbin team roles were 'team worker' and 'company worker', there being no strong tendency for the doctors to be enterprising and creative thinkers. Self-determined leadership styles were more transactional than transformational, suggesting an acceptance for working within the system rather than wishing to make changes. Will these styles will change with time and career progression or could it be possible to predict the medical leaders of the future by assessing team roles and leadership styles of trainee doctors at an early stage?
