- Abstract
The clinical application of radiomicrosphere therapy (RMT) using yttrium 90 ( 90Y) microspheres is steadily expanding. Nuclear medicine has a paramount role in the refinement of the technology involved in 90Y RMT. The critical elements that ultimately define the therapeutic profile of the RMT, including patient and disease evaluation, dosimetry, and treatment, fall under the jurisdiction of nuclear medicine. Nuclear medicine imaging, dosimetry, and radiation safety issues and protocols need standardization for unified data collection and clinical communication. The objective of this article is to present the guidelines assembled by the nuclear medicine faculty who participated in the Radiomicrosphere Therapy Symposium in Chicago on May 2-3, 2008.
