Gout is an inflammatory arthritis affecting up to 4% of adults.1 Hyperuricemia is the strongest risk factor for gout, which is caused by renal underexcretion, hepatic overproduction, or a genetic predisposition. Smaller tophaceous lesion is seen along the ligamentum flavum (black arrow) gl IMAGING Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) The MRI appearance of gout is nonspecific. Computed tomography (CT)-guided biopsy of the left C4-5 facet joint demonstrated sodium urate crystals compatible with gout.
