- Abstract
The objective is the prevalence, etiology and antimicrobial susceptibility of nosocomial urinary tract infections (NUTIs) registration. Methods are: 1- A cross-sectional study. 2- A total of 893 hospitalized patients were included. Results are: 1-The prevalence of NUTI was 14.44%. 2-The most commonly isolated microorganisms were in decreasing order: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida sp, Proteus sp, Kiebsiella sp, Enterococcus sp. Relative risk of catheter- associated NUTI is 13.27. Conclusions are: 1- Amongst the uropathogens, the level of antimicrobial resistance was high. 2- NUTI is related to the use of urinary catheters.3) NUTI causes huge extra costs for hospitals.
