- Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical effect and complications caused by stereotactic radiotherapy in the treatment of intermediate- and advanced-stage pancreatic cancer. Methods In the treatment, an OPEN KLF-A whole body gamma knife was used to treat 268 intermediate- and advanced-stage pancreatic cancer patients, covering the planning target volume with 50% ~ 70% isodose curve (PTV), giving PTV peripheral area a single dose of 250 ~ 450 cGY,the total dose reaching 3 000 cGY ~ 4500 cGY. The treatment was fractionated, being taken once daily, totally 8 ~ 14 days. Results The treatment of the 268 patients treated by stereotactic radiotherapy was effective, local analgesic efficiency was 89.2%, jaundice subsided rate 77.7% and among the 223 patients rechecked by CT/MRI, 28 was CR, 157 was PR, 13 was SD and 25 was PD. That meant the objective response rate (CR+PR+SD) was 88.8%. After treatment, 1-year survival rate was 66.8%, 2-year survival rate 30%, 3-year survival rate 9.7%, and the median survival period was about 15 months. No serious complications occurred. Conclusion Stereotactic radiotherapy is a safe and effective way in the treatment of intermediate- and advanced-stage pancreatic cancer with few side-effects, significantly easing the clinical symptoms, reducing the pains, improving the life quality, and increasing the local control rate of tumors.
