- Abstract
The training method with partial occlusion of the blood flow during exercises of low intensity, also known as Kaatsu method, was firstly used to decrease the atrophy in case of muscle mobilization. However, its application combined with muscle strengthening exercises is being applied for muscle development, once researches show results which are equal or superior to high intensity training. The aim of this study was analyze whether the Kaatsu training method is efficient for gaining of muscle hypertrophy, as well as its safety and applicability for physiotherapeutic rehabilitation. A systematic literature review was realizaed in electronic databases: PEDro, PubMed e BVS that include Lilacs, Medline and Scielo. Were found 3840 papers were found, from them, 3840 were excluded after title and/or abstract reading for not being relevant for this work. 29 papers were excluded for being written before the year 2012, duplicated, being revisions, being case studies, being pilot studies, being animal applied studies or that didn't meet the PEDro criteria (i.e. their score was less than one in PEDro scale). After of application inclusion and exclusion a citeria, left 12 papers were left for this revision. In conclusion there is no consent regarding the utilization, results and safety of the Kaatsu method as a technique for hypertrophy promotion, muscle strengthening and its application on the rehabilitation, but some researches demonstrate that the goals of the hypetrophy training can be reached by using the Kaatsu method.
