- Abstract
The purpose of this article is to reflect on the hierarchies of power and violence against women suffered by domestic workers from the contemporary Peruvian narrative. For this, the story "Conciliación" by Pilar Dughi and the novel A World for Julius by Alfredo Bryce Echenique, were taken as study objects. Both works show the violation of human and labor rights suffered by female domestic workers. In the case of "Conciliation", the domestic worker is seduced by the husband of her employer, a judge in her 50s, and she is dismissed without right to anything, since the judge assures that the employee is her husband's lover. On the other hand, in A World for Julius, the domestic worker, Vilma, is victim of sexual violence by the eldest son of her employer. This despicable act is endorsed by Juan Lucas and accepted by Susan, her employers, which is why the sexual assault goes unpunished. For the interpretation, the gender studies of several authors were used: Barrig, Viveros, De Barbieri, Bourdieu, Acalde, etc. Also, important concepts proposed by Francke, Crenshaw and Boesten on intersectionality and sexual violence were used, which allowed deepening the gender analysis in the aforementioned story and novel.
