- Abstract
Background: The quality of sleep is one of the most important factors in maintaining health. Poor sleep patterns can cause a person's physiological and psychological balance disorders which can increase the risk of nonmenural diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. The preliminary survey results that I conducted at Stambuk 2016 FKM USU totaling 295 people, there were 99 people (one third of the total students) having a prevalence of obesity (overweight and obesity levels I and II). This study aims to determine differences in sedentary behavior, sleep quality and physical activity of Stambuk 2016 FKM USU students who live in boarding houses and with parents who are overweight. Materials and Methods: This type of research is quantitative analytic with cross sectional design. The population in this study was 295 with a total sample size of 99 obtained by purposive sampling method, so the number of samples in this study were 99 students who are overweight and obese (52 people live in boarding houses and 47 students who live with people. old in Medan). The data collection method used the PSQI questionnaire, the GPAQ questionnaire, and the sedentary lifestyle form for a week. Result: The results showed that there was no significant difference between the sedentary lifestyle (p = 0.053), there was a significant difference between sleep quality (p = 0.0001) and there was a significant difference between physical activity (p = 0.009) of respondents who lived boarding house and those with parents in Medan City, Sumatera Utara, Indonesia. Conclusion: Sleep quality habits and student physical activity are factors that distinguish more weight gain among students of FKM USU Stambuk 2016. Students are expected to be able to reduce and limit the habit of staying up late when unnecessary and increase physical activity both indoors and outdoors. Parents of adolescents are advised to pay more attention to the physical activity of their children and more intensive information to students regarding the problem of adolescent obesity.
